IBG-2: Plant Sciences
IBG-2: Plant Sciences develops integrated bioeconomy concepts for the intensification and sustainability of plant production. The objective is:
- to improve yield,
- adapt the quality to various uses (food, feed, raw materials, bioenergy),
- reduce the production footprint, and
- adjust processes to the future climate and production conditions.
IBG-2 is a global leader in plant phenotyping because of its excellent expertise in below- and above-ground interactions in the dynamic plant-environment system and in combination with technology development, engineering and bioinformatics. Integration of plant science in bioeconomy value networks is another element of IBG-2, with research on alternative biomass, cell wall and secondary metabolite biochemistry aimed at feedstock optimization for conversion and sustainable carbon and nutrient utilization in integrated biorefineries.
