Section Glaciology

I study the dynamics of ice sheets, glaciers, and ice shelves, including system studies as well as process studies, using modelling and remote sensing. Multi-scale hybrid-physics modelling of the dynamics of the Antarctic and Greenland ice sheet, projections of ice sheets, ice-ocean interaction, subglacial hydrology, ice fracture mechanics and viscoelastic modelling. Satellite radar remote sensing of ice, including structural glaciology, altimetry, SAR and polarimetry of ice. Interdisciplinary research between glaciological modeling, field observations and remote sensing is key to understand the physics of the system, but moreover new simulation technologies and machine learning are boosting our advances - this is why I'm excited to be part of Helmholtz Imaging!
